As you might have noticed, our website and forums have been down for the past few weeks - but we're back! The Portus Staff thanks you for your understanding and patience while our technology elves brought our website back from the dead. We were fortunate enough to be able to restore our entire site and the forums from a complete server crash.
Don’t forget! You can still register for Portus and modify your existing registration by visiting our registration page here.
Please enjoy this special “Yummy Edition” of The Portal, detailing our new edible additions to Portus’s programming, an exclusive special discount, and more!

To: All Ministry Employees
From: the Department of Magical Resources
Re: TAXMAN discount for Portus extended!
Living among Muggles can have its advantages, like the tax refunds and economic stimulus packages that have been arriving to your homes. To celebrate all the extra galleons, sickles, and Muggle dollars, the Department of Magical Resources has arranged for one last discount for your Portus registration. Enter the code TAXMAN by June 5th when registering for Portus, and you will receive a 20% discount on full and day registrations. The discount is available for you and your friends and relatives, Muggle or wizard, and can be used for a gift registration, too! Act soon! When this last discount code for Portus is over, the price freezes at $220.00 for a full registration!
Free Breakfast for all attendees on Friday and Saturday
Many a seasoned con-goer will tell you about the fast-paced, non-stop action of four days of nothing but Harry Potter. With all of the programming planned for Portus, one needs to be careful not to outdo oneself! Having organized these conferences for over five years now, the Portus staff knows the importance of a good square meal in providing you with the energy you need to go from wrocking out at our Wrock Concert, breaking a sweat diving for that snitch at Quidditch, and rushing to and from your favorite lectures and programs each day.
In the spirit of health and sanity, we present you with the conference survival guideline, The 5-2-1 Rule.
The 5-2-1 Rule has been around almost as long as fan conferences have been in existence. The rule suggests that in order to get the most out of the conference you should get at least 5 hours of sleep, two meals, and one shower per day.
While the sleep and shower are up to you, we will be helping to provide you with the optimum conference survival by providing all Portus attendees with a deluxe continental style breakfast on Friday and Saturday morning at 8:30 AM. Stay tuned to the Portal for updates on the location of the free deluxe continental breakfast.

Portus Bookfair at Barnes & Noble
Do you have books, CDs, or DVDs you want to buy? Don’t buy them just yet! On June 20th, 21st, and 22nd, Portus & HPEF will be having a Bookfair at Barnes & Noble. When you make a purchase at a participating Barnes & Noble during our Bookfair days and use the Portus/ HPEF voucher or Bookfair number, a portion of your sale will go back to HPEF to help us continue our literacy endeavors. You may purchase anything in the store or anything available through the store to have shipped to your home. *
Detailed information, including our Bookfair number and a printable voucher, will soon be available on our website. Are you in the DFW metroplex? Keep an eye out for information on HP themed events at the Parks at Arlington Barnes & Noble location during our Bookfair.
Want to help even more? Forward this information to your friends, family, co-workers, or anyone you think would make a purchase to support Portus. Again, anything* available at a Barnes & Noble Bookstore is eligible for the Bookfair, even items purchased at a Barnes & Noble Café!
Please note that only sales made through a participating Barnes & Noble will count towards our Bookfair. Online purchases are NOT eligible for the Bookfair.
Any questions? Please post on the Portus message board, and we will respond promptly. Thank you for your support.
*Gift card and Membership card activation purchases are not eligible for the Bookfair.
After the Welcoming Feast, we invite you to enjoy the wrocking sounds of the Moaning Myrtles and the Mudbloods at our Wizard Rock Concert! The evening after the Leaving Feast, we hope you will join us for the Post-Portus Wizard Rock Dance Party! Tickets are $20 and are available by modifying your registration.
How to Have a Ball at the Ball!
The Mystery Masquerade Ball is the social event of the season! Marked as His Equal will open the festivities, but that’s not the end of your magical entertainment! Oliver Boyd and the Rememberalls and Ministry of Magic will perform at the Ball, along with a Ministry-approved Muggle DJ to keep you dancing all night long. Any masks worn must be removable and may not be worn at the bar. Ball attire must be tasteful and appropriate; check with our Meet & Greet staff for details. Modify your registration today for the Ball. Tickets may be available at the door.
Cameras are allowed at both wrock events and the Ball. Exclusive Portus beverages will be available at the Longhorn Saloon cash bar. Please have your government-issued ID with you at all times. Wrockers will have merchandise for sale, so be sure to bring you Sickles! Maybe you can even get them to sign a thing or two!
Please see special notices from our Aurors below about the rules of conduct while at Portus.
Common Room Happenings
For more information on any of the following Common Room Happenings, please contact Lauren Johnson, Head of Common Room, at email@example.com.
Call for Cosplay Performers!
This is for all those Cosplayers who put many hours into their creations, designs, and artwork to reflect their ship, favorite character, or just a fun Hogwarts-themed witch or wizard. Did you take a real person out of history and intertwine them with the Harry Potter universe? Come tell us about them. We could all use a History lesson or two. Think you know all there is to know about your Canon character? Let the quizzing begin!
For an hour on Friday and Saturday, people with Cosplay creations will get to show their stuff. They can perform non-judged skits, or different people can talk about the groups in which they are involved. Keep it clean, and keep it safe! Apparation wards are up, Floo network is off, no Unforgivables! (AKA, nothing dirty to pick up, use your imagination!) These entries must be pre-approved by the Common Room staff and must have scripts and group biographies reviewed before Portus.
Call for Fanfic Readers!
Are you a fan fiction author? Do you find yourself waiting for that special moment to expose more people to your story? Do you dream of being like the great J.K. Rowling and reading a bit of your work for the first time in front of a bunch of people? Here is your chance.
Like past HPEF events, Fanfic readings will be offered in the Common Room to those authors in attendance. An author can elect someone else to read their story for them if they are unable to attend. This is the perfect chance to get your work noticed by many people. All ratings, ships, and eras will be accepted. (Adult ratings will be showcased at night, 10pm and later). 12-15 minute reading sessions are available.
Calling all Wizard WROCKERS!
It’s no big secret; Wizard Wrock is a big deal for many people. At Portus, there will be many things to see, hear, and talk about. Best of all, there will be lots of music to wrock out to. If you are a member of a wrock band and know that your whole band will be able to be at Portus, find out how you can perform in one of the Common Room’s Unplugged sessions! Current wrockers include: Catchlove, The Owl Post, The House of Black, and Mirror of Erised, with special appearances by Oliver Boyd & the Rememberalls, Ministry of Magic, Moaning Myrtles, and The Mudbloods.
Want to catch a movie at Portus? Take a break, and enjoy some of the best in wizarding cinema. All movies are free and open to all at Portus. Seating is first-come, first-seated. You may bring your own refreshments to Cinema Alley. Screenings are quiet screenings with the exception of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix; shout-outs and audience participation are encouraged at these two shows only. The Wizard Rockumentary will have two screenings on Saturday, July 12th, and you may register today for a reserved seat. Additional seating may be available for the Wizard Rockumentary on site. And don’t forget to check out the fan films, The Potter Prophecy and The Marauder’s Worst Memory!
A few words from our Aurors about security at Portus…
All attendees must wear their badges at all times, and badges must be readily visible to all Portus and hotel staff. Portus security and staff may check badges at any time, and admission to Portus activities will not be allowed without a name badge presented at each entrance. Check with Portus security and posted signs for information on re-entry to select events. Please have your government-issued photo identification on your person at all times for the Hilton Anatole staff.
Should you lose your badge, please report to the Registration Desk, and show your I.D. to obtain a replacement.
Alcohol and Drugs
Muggle law states that the legal drinking age in the United Sates is twenty-one (21) years of age. Anyone found in the possession of alcohol, under the influence of alcohol, or supplying alcohol to anyone under the legal age, as well as the possession, selling, and consumption of illegal drugs of any nature, automatically qualifies you for immediate removal from Portus and all of its’ activities without the possibility of receiving any form of reimbursement. You will also be reported to the local authorities.
The Hilton Anatole
The Hilton Anatole is a 100% non-smoking environment. The hotel has a quiet time of ten o’clock (10:00 pm) each night. If Portus staff is alerted to repetitive noise complaints coming from your room, you are subject to the possibility of removal from Portus and all of its’ activities without the possibility of receiving any form of reimbursement. In addition, if you are found throwing anything off the balcony surrounding the Atrium and guest rooms into the lobby area, you will also be subject to having your registration removed.
Damage done to any of the hotel’s pieces of artwork or the moving of hotel furniture will not be tolerated. If you are found defacing or damaging hotel property in any way, your actions will justify the removal of your registration from all Portus events.
