What's included in my PORTUS registration?

The basic registration package for PORTUS covers all four days of the symposium and includes:

  • Admission to all formal programming sessions, including Saturday morning's plenary session with Jim Dale!
  • Admission to all informal programming sessions, including The North American Flying Federation’s 140th Merlin’s Cup, the Level 9 roundtables, Cinema Alley, and more.
  • Four meals, including Thursday night's Welcoming Feast, Deluxe Continental Breakfast on Friday and Saturday morning, and Sunday morning's Leaving Feast.
  • Admission to Common Room, Art Gallery, and the Vendor Room

I only have one free day. How can I come to PORTUS?

Single Day Registrations are available for Friday July 11, and Saturday, July 12. For $75, you will receive access to all formal and informal programming, participation in the 140th Federation Merlin's Cup, admission to the Vendor Room, Art Gallery, Common Room, and Cinema Alley, with the option to purchase extra ticket events like the Keynote Luncheon, Afternoon Tea, Dessert with Jim Dale, or the Mystery Masquerade Ball for the day of your admission. If you are purchasing a day pass for Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, you may still be able to purchase luncheon tickets, Ball tickets, tea tickets, or Dance Party tickets if they are available for the day you are planning to attend - visit our Registration desk to modify your registration and add extra event tickets.

When will the price change?

The cost of registration is now locked at $220.00 USD through the event, and online registration is possible through July 12th. As available, you may also purchase your registration at the door. Availability is contingent upon how many online registrations we receive; due to space limitations, PORTUS can only accommodate 1,600 attendees. Certain extra-ticketed events will increase in price if purchased at the door, and tickets to special events are contingent on availability.

Who can attend PORTUS?

PORTUS is geared toward adults and will be of little interest to children. Anyone who has turned 18 as of July 10, 2008 is welcome to attend on their own. Anyone between the ages of 14 and 17 as of July 10, 2008 may attend with their registered parent or guardian. If neither a parent nor guardian is able to attend, minors aged 14-17 may attend with a chaperone and a signed and notarized parental permission slip appointing the chaperone. Chaperones must be registered and attend the conference, and must be at least 21 years old. Each chaperone may supervise up to two teenaged attendees. No person under the age of 14 may attend. PORTUS is a conference for adults and parents should be advised that some programming may contain mature themes and language.

How can I get a refund?

The deadline for refunds on your registration has passed, and we are not able to process any refunds. If you have a question, please contact us at registration@portus2008.org.

When will online registration close?

Online registration will remain open through the event. We do ask that you let our registration staffers know when you check in at PORTUS if you register online after July 9th. This will expedite your check-in process.

Where will the Registration Desk be located?

The Portus Registration Desk will be located at the Atrium Registration Desk, outside of the Grand Ballroom.

When should I check in at the Portus Registration Desk?

Please check in as soon as you arrive at the Hilton Anatole so you may enjoy the full benefits of your registration.

When will the Registration Desk be open?

Registration will be open Thursday, July 10th from Noon-6pm and 7-9pm; Friday, July 11th from 8:30am-noon, 1:30-3:30pm, and 4:30-6pm; and on Saturday, July 12th from 8:30am-noon and 1:30-3:30pm. Tickets for the Mystery Masquerade Ball will also be sold from 9-10pm on Saturday night.

What if I need help outside of the Registration Desk hours?

If you need assistance outside of the hours of Registration, please come to the Meet & Greet Desk (located near the Registration Desk). Meet & Greet will be open Thursday from Noon-6pm and 7-9pm; Friday from 8:30am-10pm; Saturday 8:30am-noon and 1:30-10pm; and Sunday from 8:30-11am.

What methods of payment will you be accepting at PORTUS?

We accept MasterCard, Visa, and cash.

What do I need to have in order to check in at PORTUS?

You must have a government-issued photo ID to check in. If you are between the ages of 14 and 17, you must also have a notarized minor form signed by your parent or legal guardian.

Do I need to have any identification with me at PORTUS?

You must wear your PORTUS badge at all times. Badges must be visible to PORTUS and hotel staff, and PORTUS security and staff may check your badge at any time. You must also have your government-issued photo identification with you at all times for the hotel staff.

What if I lose my badge?

If you lose your PORTUS badge, please come to the Registration Desk, and show your photo identification to obtain a replacement.

I’m registered for Portus, but I’m between 14 and 17 years old. What do I need to do?

When you arrive at PORTUS, please come to the Registration Desk with your parent, guardian, or chaperone and your notarized minor form to receive your registration packet. If your parent or guardian is not traveling with you, download a copy of the form here, fill it out and have it notarized, and bring it with you to PORTUS.

Who can be my chaperone, and do they have to be registered for Portus?

A parent or legal guardian or a chaperone 21 years old or older who is designated by your parent or legal guardian as an approved chaperone may accompany you. Yes, your chaperone must be registered for PORTUS and must attend the event.

How can I get my minor form notarized?

Many banks and post offices can notarize your form. At the Hilton Anatole, you may also go to the hotel concierge for notary services.

I haven’t booked a hotel room yet. What can I do?

Contact the Hilton Anatole and mention that you are staying at the hotel to attend PORTUS. They will let you know if there are still PORTUS-rate rooms available.

How can I add available extra ticket items to my registration?

If you would like to add optional items to your registration such as the Mystery Masquerade Ball or Dessert Mingler, please check with the Registration Desk as soon as possible. Tickets are subject to availability, so the sooner you purchase your tickets, the better. Some events may be sold out.

The Wizard Rockumentary is free but I see that it has limited seating. How do I make sure I can see it?

The first screening of the Wizard Rockumentary from 3-5pm on Saturday is, at this time, full. A second screening of the Wizard Rockumentary from 5-7pm has been added, so if you are on the waiting list for the first screening you may change your preference to the second screening. If you would like to sign up for the second screening, this is the perfect time. But act fast as it is limited to the first 100 participants.

What else can I get at Registration?

You may also buy tickets for the PORTUS Opportunity Drawing raffle (tickets are $1 each or six for $5) and Deluxe PORTUS Opportunity Drawing raffle (tickets $5 each) at the Registration Desk. The POD raffle includes raffle prizes such as books, t-shirts, games, gift certificates, and more. Winners will be posted five times on Friday and Saturday with a special drawing at the Leaving Feast. The Deluxe POD raffle tickets give you a chance to win a limited edition lithograph from Mary GrandPre. For more details, come to the Registration Desk and check your program at PORTUS.
